Conservation Commission Minutes 08/04/2017

Chichester Conservation Commission Special Meeting
  Minutes of Meeting August 4, 2017, 4pm
Main Street parcel, Map 4, Lot 2

Present:  Blaze Konefal, Bob Mann, Marianne DiTaranto,  Zack Boyajian, Frank Harrison, Dawn Marshall, Gordon Jones.   Guests Gail Britton-Kojigian and Charles Kojigian.

This meeting was held to inspect the 7.1 acre parcel according the terms of the recently signed purchase and sale agreement with Fred Shaw and Deborah Ellis Shaw.

The bounds of the lot were partially walked.   There are old agricultural buildings and several rusting farm implements in the southwesterly corner of the lot.   Buildings include a pole shed with corrugated metal roof needing some repair plus other buildings in ruins, possibly built for the purpose of housing poultry.   The farm implements include mechanical cultivators, potato harvester, corn stalk grinder, and others.  Fred Shaw has stated his wish to offer the stalk grinder  to the Historical Society.   Also observed were several galvanized poultry feeders.

Three rusting 55-gallon drums and a 5-gallon drum were examined and found to be collecting rainwater.   There is no visual evidence of hazardous waste materials.

Also observed were at least two large downed pine trees and extensive brush growth, including autumn olive, Japanese Barberry, and oriental bittersweet.

Zack reported that he has reviewed databases at DES and other appropriate data sources for reports of waste contamination and found none which are relevant to this parcel.

Meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm due to approaching thundershower.
